"Back in the Day"

A nostalgic look back at Stagalee in the heady days of the late 70’s/early 80’s as they careered around the country at the height of their popularity playing festivals, the university/college circuit, and numerous clubs and music venues of all stripes.

The band also held down a long running Thursday night residency in McGonagles in South Anne St playing a wide repertoire of original material and covers of their favourite funk/soul artistes like The Crusaders, Bill Withers, Taj Mahal, The Meters etc. Thursday night was always packed to the rafters with dancers and music lovers who really dug the band’s infectious funky rhythms and grooves.

Membership of the band was amazingly fluid (the list is too long to put into print!) but always consisted of top drawer musicians who always reinvigorated the music with their own individual talents and ideas.

Their first and only recording to actually be released was a single... an Errol Walsh song called “Give A Little Love” which proved to be a radio hit in Ireland and remained a regular favourite on RTE for over forty years!

The intention was always there to record an album but the live music scene was so healthy back in the day that somehow they never seemed to find time. However, along the way there were various live recordings, studio tracks and out-takes that somehow survived the rigours of time and have been pulled together here in the raw for this collection called “Back in the Day” which will hopefully spark memories of a wonderfully exciting musical era in Dublin and around the country.
