WE’LL GET THERE BEFORE IT CLOSES
All too soon we die I guess, so me, I'm gonna take a rest
And contemplate this living while I can
Gonna dig out my old fishing pole & go on down to the fishing hole
And try to figure out what's for the best
Now some folks think I'm lazy, others say I got no ambition
But let me tell you that's not strictly true
Yes, it's true I'm in no hurry and I doubt if I'll be sorry
If I don't get to die before you do
But we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end
So why does living have to be so fast?
Well we race right through our childhood and headlong into youth
Hardly take a breath along the way
Then we rush straight into marriage and that double baby carriage
Before we even stop to ask the time of day
There's a lot of stuff out there to ponder, lots of magic and pure wonder
For anyone who’ll take the time to see
It's so easy to get sucked into a whirlwind of a life
'Til you can't see the woodland for the trees
But we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end
So why does living have to be so fast?
There's so much out there going on but I feel no need to be the one
Who always has to breast the winning tape
I don't mind being second...and I don't mind being third
To tell the truth I don't mind coming last
‘Cos we'll get there before it closes so let's take time to smell the roses
And never give a thought to coming last
'Cos we're all going the same way and we'll get there in the end
So why does living have to be so fast?
